โWhat to do NOW
- 1Same procedure as for the falcon: cover with a towel, grasp the feet
- 2Check the keel (sternum): if it protrudes like a blade, the animal is severely malnourished
- 3Dark box with ventilation holes, towel on the bottom
- 4Contact CRAS immediately

- โDo not attempt DIY fracture treatment
- โDo not leave exposed to open air โ hypothermia stress is lethal
โ Important note
The red kite (Milvus milvus) is an at-risk species in Italy. Buzzards found on the ground often have collision fractures or second-generation rodenticide poisoning (brodifacoum). Report to the CRAS if found near farms or landfills.
โ Legal protection
Protected by the Birds Directive and Law 157/1992. The red kite is listed in Annex I of the Birds Directive.
