✓What to do NOW

  1. 1Do not approach: badgers can be aggressive when frightened and have a powerful bite
  2. 2If injured on a road: report to the Provincial Police or Carabinieri Forestali
  3. 3If containment is necessary while waiting for CRAS: use a metal crate or heavy tarpaulin
  4. 4Contact CRAS that handles medium-sized mammals

  • ✗Do not approach without adequate protection (heavy work gloves, boots)
  • ✗Do not try to pick up bare-handed
  • ✗Do not feed

⚠ Important note

The badger is strictly nocturnal: found during the day it is almost certainly injured or sick. Badger sett systems are protected in many regions. Bovine tuberculosis (Mycobacterium bovis) is present in some Italian badger populations — avoid direct contact.
