โœ“What to do NOW

  1. 1Approach slowly and pick up with both hands around the body, restraining the wings
  2. 2Place in a dark box with holes, lined with absorbent paper
  3. 3Check for visible wounds, bleeding, or obvious fractures
  4. 4Keep warm (22-25ยฐC), sheltered, away from pets
  5. 5Contact the local CRAS or wildlife rescue centre

โœ—NEVER do this

  • โœ—Do not give food or water without CRAS guidance (risk of aspiration pneumonia)
  • โœ—Do not keep with other pigeons or unknown birds
  • โœ—Do not put in a sealed plastic bag or airtight container
  • โœ—Do not expose to direct sunlight or heat sources

โš  Important note

The feral pigeon is one of the most commonly found injured birds in cities. Many recover from minor trauma if kept warm in a quiet place for 1-2 hours. If after two hours it cannot stand or does not react to light, a CRAS is needed. Note: pigeons can transmit psittacosis and other zoonoses โ€” wash hands after contact.
