✓What to do NOW

1Approach slowly and pick up with both hands around the body, restraining the wings
2Place in a dark box with holes, lined with absorbent paper
3Check for visible wounds, bleeding, or obvious fractures
4Keep warm (22-25°C), sheltered, away from pets
5Contact the local CRAS or wildlife rescue centre

✗Do not give food or water without CRAS guidance (risk of aspiration pneumonia)
✗Do not keep with other pigeons or unknown birds
✗Do not put in a sealed plastic bag or airtight container
✗Do not expose to direct sunlight or heat sources

⚠ Important note

The feral pigeon is one of the most commonly found injured birds in cities. Many recover from minor trauma if kept warm in a quiet place for 1-2 hours. If after two hours it cannot stand or does not react to light, a CRAS is needed. Note: pigeons can transmit psittacosis and other zoonoses — wash hands after contact.
